Moscow authorities plan to abandon migrants on construction sites

The authorities of Moscow are considering refusing migrants on construction sites

The vice-mayor of the capital spoke of the reduction in the number of workers.

Authorities in Moscow are preparing a plan to abandon migrants on construction sites in the capital. This was announced by Deputy Mayor Andrei Bochkarev, who predicted global changes in the construction industry.

In an interview with RBC, Bochkarev said that a renovation program is being implemented in Moscow, but there are not enough personnel at construction sites – laborers, engineers. The situation has been made worse by the pandemic – many migrants have left to return home.

From now on, out of 120,000 workers, 40,000 remain in Moscow. Currently, the lack of resources is 40%, notes Bochkarev.

It is also noteworthy that the natives of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan work on construction sites in the capital, and before the majority were from Tajikistan. At the same time, the number of inhabitants of the Moscow region has also increased, but many specialists simply do not exist.

According to the deputy mayor, on average, a migrant receives about 50-60 thousand rubles, that is, the salary has doubled.

“But a lot of people who are over 80,000 years old don't want to work,” says Bochkarev.

From now on, the authorities are busy developing a strategy, during the implementation of which the sites will do without migrants. The construction process will require 3 times fewer people, but their wages will be 2-3 times higher.

At the same time, according to the authorities' plan, they will start building faster. Thus, instead of four workers, it will be possible to install an installation that will apply the solution to the wall.

The municipal authorities will ensure the quality of education in the construction sector. Currently only 10-15% of study time is spent on site management techniques.

More time is spent on industrial construction – calculations, formulas, etc.

“You go to an American construction site, the workers are all hanged with tools. Because they get their money's worth for productivity. It might seem like a trifle, but that's how one person replaces three. We need to create such educational programs, ”says Bochkarev.

The Ministry of Economic Development supported the replacement of migrants by Russian citizens on construction sites. So, Deputy Minister Dmitri Volvach is sure that the idea will not be implemented immediately, but action can be taken now.

According to Volvach, it is important to focus on paid jobs, Russian staff and high tech.

Volvach also suggested attracting near-foreign-trained migrants to construction sites in Moscow.

In an interview with, the idea of refusing migrants was criticized by economist Alexei Korenev. According to him, the implementation of this program requires financial investments, the purchase of high-quality equipment, etc.

The expert also recalled that Vladimir Putin said in 2020: Russia cannot do without migrants. The economist speculates that the vice mayor wanted to “please the Muscovites” who are fed up with newcomers.

As Topnews wrote earlier, the media reported brochures in maternity hospitals in Moscow, in which they spoke in different languages about payments to migrants of 20,000 rubles for the birth of the first child. For this, 700 million rubles were allocated from the Moscow budget.
